Luke and Josephus
Luke and Josephus
http://www.infidels.org/library/mode...djosephus.html The idea that Luke used Josephus as a source is explored in this short summary. Any thoughts on this? |

Can't anybody offer some pros and cons for this view? I had heard mention of it but this is the first I actually read into it.The link is to a brief summary of Mason's argument by Richard Carrier.

I only know the pro's. Mason is a very credible scholar, and his points seem well taken. You will probably only find some Christians who are committed to an early date to the gospels who dissent.
There are some alternative scholars who take this idea much further, and claim that the gospels are derived in their entirety from Josephus. |

Thanks, I didn't know they took it that far but it was interesting to read that Luke may have got his birth story from reading Josephus. That's a good reason for dating gLuke rather late.

Richard Pervo also argues for this point in his Dating Acts (or via: amazon.co.uk), pretty convincing in my opinion.
