Default Translation question

I'm reading this book (or via: amazon.co.uk), and he writes:

Quote:
"Therefore the LORD will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will discover ("lay bare"--NRSV) their secret parts" (Isaiah 3:17) "Secret parts" is a euphemistic translation of the Hebrew word poth, which refers to the vagina, literally "hinged opening." Some pseudo-translations, such as the NIV, have tried to cover up this embarrassing image of a molesting deity by dishonestly translating poth as "scalp."
p. 177.

Looking in Bible Gateway, it does seem that about half the English translations call it a secret part--implying genitals laid bare--and the other half make it head or scalp related. Some seem at first glance to be ridiculous: "I will make their foreheads bare." What woman wants a hairy forehead?

So any opinions on what might appear to be sexual molestation?
