Default Poor Joseph, God was a hard act to follow

Latest from kiwi land -- a church billboard lampooning the virgin birth myth:

After the impregnation by the HG, Mary was never again the same.
Well, Celsus told Origen a soldier called Panthera was the second name of that spectacular HG!

Wow, absolutely great! Thanks for posting the link.

But Vicar Cardy says they could have gone with a much more controversial option - an image of a fluorescent sperm coming down with "joy to the world" on it.

But a few hours after the billboard went up, an angry man with a pot of brown paint covered over Mary and Joseph's faces.
I bet he was trying to make the billboard conform to the "no graven images" commandment.

I guess if Yahweh could command the slaughtering of infants, telling some zealot to deface anothers property is small potatoes.

This billboard has now been taken permanently after it was attacked with a knife.

Quote:
After the latest attack, by an elderly woman with a knife, the church said the billboard would not be replaced.

The vicar of St Matthew-in-the-City, Glynn Cardy, said: ''[The billboard was] attacked by a knife-wielding Christian fanatic who was then apprehended by a group of homeless people who care about our church. Later in the evening, another group of fanatics ripped it down.
The quote is from here http://www.smh.com.au/world/sexy-god...1219-l6oq.html

This vandalism could make it harder to do a non-religious campaign as the advertisers could say that adverts will be attacked or ripped down by religious fanatics.

It's good to see the Church is making a point; they don't take the Bible literally. Too often its the literalists that make headlines and are juxtaposed with non-believers of Christianity as the counter-argument, when in fact other Christians don't believe the rubbish that comes from literalists.

I love church criteria for a successful operation:

Quote:
The church had no regrets about fuelling discussion about God: ''We are glad that discussion about Santa, food, and present-buying was momentarily usurped by a discussion about Jesus.''
Hell, we talk about Jesus all the time here.

How is it that the Church does not take the Bible literally and have a depiction of Mary and Joseph as being literally in bed?

It must be that it was the Church who for hundreds of years now that have propagated that the Bible was literally true.

I eagerly await the day when Christians proclaim that the Bible is literally false.

Just beautiful but better yet is the name of the Church that ordered it had they known that it was Matthew who send Jeus back to Gallilee where he will spend the rest of his life suffering and in the end will die nonetheless.

Perhaps someone should tell them that when Jesus brough heaven to earth it was inevitable that hell came crashing down with it because you just cannot have a pair of opposites without the other.

Further is it not possible to have a Christian church nor is it possible to have a Christian religion because Christian-ity is the end of religion as a means to the end. The upshot here is that the poster is really telling us that Herod is alive and well in Auckland New Zeeland where the suffering servant is venerated in the broad daylight of the sunny South.

It reminds me of the following poem:

If he had known that unstructured space is a deluge
and stocked his life-house boat with all the animals,
. . . even the wolves
he might have floated.

But obstinate he stated: the land is solid,
and stamped . . .
watching his foot sink down through stone
up to the knee.

Precious: especially Mary's head scarf.

It's obviously ostentatious flag waving if she wears it in bed but I am at my wits end to decide whether it says "ready but frigid" or "mess with this holy mother and your dick is history". :devil1:
