Is There Any Evidence to Demonstrate that the Valentinians Rejected Acts?
A quick Google search reveals nothing and I can't recall anything definitive on the subject. Against Heresies Book Three Chapter 15 can be read in that way. But it is not definitive. Are there any references to the Valentinian rejection of Acts in the way we see for the Marcionites, Severians, Encratites etc.

To Stephan,
I would not be surprised 'Acts' was rejected by Gnostics, as it looked it was also for many Orthodox Christians. The reasons for rejection would be: a) Conflicts between Acts and the Pauline epistles (for the believers who highly regarded Paul) OR/AND b) Because Acts asserts Paul did the preaching of Christianity outside Palestine. When in gMark added ending, Aristides' apology, Justin Martyr's writings and Irenaeus' Demonstration, it is the twelve, who right after the resurrection, go all other the world in order to make converts (believers who distrusted Paul then would reject Acts for that). What do you think? |
