Default Was Jesus a NAZARAEAN?

There is some indication that Jesus could have been a member of the sect called NAZARAEANS...Is anyone here familiar with this?...Is this something worth exploring?

I have yet to see evidence that "Nazarene" or "Nazorean" was actually a pre-Christian sect. I have seen speculation of the existence of such a sect being using to explain away references to "Nazarene" or "Nazorean" in the Gospels, and sometimes this speculation is stated as if it were fact.

Jesus was not a Nazarean. He is a myth.

Am I missing something, or is the possibility that JC was a Nazarite ever discussed?

Long Jewish Encyclopedia entry on Nazarites

The Nazarites, apparently, were by no means a sect but Jews who took certain special vows and were under special prohibitions.

The idea the Jesus was originally part of the Nasoreans, the followers of John the Baptist, is strongly advocated by Helmut Koester.

The problem is that Jesus is said to have drunk wine, in contrast to John the Baptist. That would make it unlikely that he was a Nazarite.

Well, no wonder nobody can find this Character "Jesus"...
What a mess!!

But I have a feeling that this is a good lead...
Now,if we can ONLY get our agreed findings together we might get somewhere...

Julian, you mentioned Prof. Koester (Harvard Divinity). What is a good site to pick his brain?

Chili, I keep asking you to give references about what you say in order to put it in context.

Toto, I haven't sorted out completely the mix of letters and places.
So far I am following leads on Mount Carmel and B'nai Amen Temple

But if the JtB theory is correct, he would have left the movement by that time and no longer subject to whatever rules they abided by.
