Is it Kosher? Eggs and Egg substitutes.

You tell me what this says. If fertilized eggs are non-kosher, is that because they are embryos?

Well - somewhere between 50 and 75% of all fertilizations end in a miscarriage.

I would say that the Christian god must be pro-choice, since abortion is not specifically condemned in the bible.

Christians like to believe that all the books in the bible were chosen with divine inspiration. Well, there actually was a very popular piece of scripture that dealt specifically with abortion, and it was rejected by the Early Church Fathers when they chose the books that would be included in the Christian Bible.

It was said that the Apocalypse of Peter was second only to the fourth Gospel in popularity in the early church. Popular, perhaps, because it also told of a special care-taker angel that watched over children who died before they had been saved. With the high child mortality rate suffered by the poor, one can see why this scripture enjoyed popularity. It condemned abortion, however, and told of the punishments that would be visited on those that practiced abortion.

And near that place I saw another strait place into which the gore and the filth of those who were being punished ran down and became there as it were a lake: and there sat women having the gore up to their necks, and over against them sat many children who were born to them out of due time, crying; and there came forth from them sparks of fire and smote the women in the eyes: and these were the accursed who conceived and caused abortion.

I'll be a monkey's uncle! I sure got that one wrong.

Perhaps it is the prohibition against consuming blood that is at work here.

Here is the source of my mistaken belief that fertile eggs could be kosher.
Deuteronomy 22
6 If you come across a bird's nest beside the road, either in a tree or on the ground, and the mother is sitting on the young or on the eggs, do not take the mother with the young.

I think that wild bird eggs would usually be fertile. So this passage must predate the kosher laws as they exist today.

The Didache also condemns abortion:
Quote:
you shall not murder a child by abortion nor kill that which is born.
Another source that "God's inspiration" caused the Church fathers to reject...

The here-implicit allegation of "god" is a silly human fiction.

Default Not Pro-Choice According to Right to Life's Standards...

There are noteworthy passages in the Bible that show life originating from "breath" and not "birth."

As I remember correctly, there is a trenchant passage in Job and then we have the Genesis account of God breathing air out to liven up the dust of pre-Adam.

If I was not close to brain damage at this late hour, I would provide relevant verses; those with concordances can do it if they want.

"You can look up a biblical verse and recite it to a heathen every day, or you can teach that heathen to look it up and read it for themselves."
