Bible: why can't we use the REAL names?
I find it so unauthentic to anglicize the names. It really drags down the whole "truth" prospect for me. It just seems to speak volumes about what "believers" are willing to change for their convenience.
- What's wrong with Miryam? Yeshua? etc? - who changed them anyway? - why don't people who might now be in possession of the real names, start using them? We went from Peking to Beijing, didn't we? That didn't hurt so much. - Are there any current Bible translations for the masses (that is, English) who use the real names? - Should we start calling Clytemnestra "Carol" and Agamemnon "Andy"? How does this strike anyone else in terms of a group that seeks "Truth"? Is it too much TROUBLE to be accurate? |

So where did "Jesus" come from, Magus?
(Did you not understand my question?) Clytemnestra is Greek. When we read the Greek story - in its English version - it still says Clytemnestra. See what I mean? So why do you say "Jesus", where did thet come from and when? |

Names are names. My name Lee is Lee is any language. My name is Lee on the Zeti Reticuli star system.
I never got why one name changes with the language. Some one help me out here?? If his name was Yeshua then why in a different language is the whole spelling AND pronunciation totally changes to Jesus? |

Thank you, Lee. I was beginning to thing my question was too difficult to understand.
Beijing was called Peking for many years because of ignorant foreigners who didn't give a crap about the local culture and made up their own story. So one wonders, is this what happened to the bible story? That's why it seems important to me, because it makes the bible even less convincing. I mean, for the love of REASON, this is your GOD - you just change his name cause you feel like it and you don't hink that's a big deal? Neo: thanks, yeah, that's what I mean. Is this translation old? Has it been around but unpopular? |

"Thank ya Yeshua!" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

As far as where Jesus comes from - I *think* Iesous is Greek for "God saves" in the same way Yeshua is Hebrew for "Yahweh Saves", and then Iesous was transliterated into English as Jesus - in the same way Yeshua was transliterated into English as Joshua. I'm not 100% accurate on that, so take it with a spoonful of sugar. |
