Against Heresies book 2.22 by Irenaeus dealt specifically with the age of Jesus when he suffered. The heretics argued that Jesus suffered within 12 months of his baptism and that Jesus was about 30 years. Irenaeus claimed that Jesus did not suffer 12 months after his baptism and that Jesus was over 50 years old when he suffered. This is the subtitle of BOOK 2.22: THE THIRTY AEONS ARE NOT TYPIFIED BY THE FACT THAT CHRIST WAS BAPTISED IN HIS THIRTIETH YEAR: HE DID NOT SUFFER IN THE TWELFTH MONTH AFTER HIS BAPTISM, BUT WAS MORE THAN FIFTY YEARS OLD WHEN HE DIED. Trajan is not part of the confusion he is documented to have lived from Sept.18 53 to August 19 117. The confusion surrounds Irenaeus, Jesus, John, the apostles, the Elders, the disciples, the beloved disciple, the author of Matthew, the author of Luke, Mary Magdalene, the other Marys and Joseph of Arimathea. |
