Default Wrght Vs Crossan debate

The opening quote is a classic. Queen of Swords, where are you?

"Enormous forces in our culture are determined to deny that Jesus was raised from the dead,?N.T. Wright, an Anglican evangelical scholar, said."

Like logic and reason, for example.

They basically say that because people two thousand years ago believed in the resurrection, we too must accept it. Also, the bible tells them so.

No, rather, the basic argument is that there is no explanation for the missionary activity of the early Jewish followers of Jesus if their Messiah was dead. It should have fizzled out, but all we have is an expanding, vibrant community of Jesus people.

And I guess there is not a single Jehovah's Witness knocking on Bishop Wright's door, now that their apocalyptic predictions did not pan out.....

Uh, yeah, Jehovah's Witnesses aren't a sect of Christianity or anything (Christianity; Christ; Jesus; that guy who allegedly rose from the dead).

There's actually no proof of any such activity by the direct followers of Jesus, or even that were any direct followers of Jesus, or even that there was a Jesus.

Just like there is no explanation for the spread of Islam if their Prophet, Mohammed, died? So obviously Mohammed must have been resurrected as well (hmmm, I may be on to something here, Islam 2.0 anyone?). The lack of critical thinking skills on the part of some people is simply astounding.

Mohammed in mainstream Islam is a prophet to whom God revealed the Quran.

Although his death caused problems of authority in early Islam, it did not cause the sort of fundamental ideological crisis that the execution of by the authorities of someone believed to be the Messiah would cause to his followers.

<sigh> The Internet. What a great leveller. I'm getting ridiculed by a 'Script Monkey'.

Read, then re-read Criddle's short diddle. Got it yet? Add to that the notion that messiahs were popping up all over the Palestinian levant in and around the first century (pre-70 AD), and you've got a pretty big question being begged. Hows' come none of the other messiah groups kept their wind when their leader was killed?

Diogenes (if you're even an ens, a being), until I see further proof that you exist, I'll just scoff at you for now. :rolling:

Are you admitting that you can't back up your assertions?

I have a very simple question - what is your evidence that a single human being ever claimed to have seen somebody named Jesus come back from the dead?

ETA: remember, I'm not asking for proof that Jesus came back from the dead, I'm asking for proof that anyone even claimed they saw Jesus come back from the dead.
