Default Learning Hebrew

I am wanting to learn biblical Hebrew. Obviously to become an expert would be very time consuming, but I am interested in learning the basics. Does anybody know a good place to start?

Thanks!

Kevin

Hello Kevin,

Are you wanting to do self-study rather than enroll in classes somewhere? If so, for someone just beginning who wants to learn on his own time, I give the highest recommendation to:

Biblical Hebrew, An Introductory Grammar; Page H. Kelly, William B. Eerdman Pub.; Grand Rapids, Mich. (ISBN for paperback ed. > 0-8028-0598-I)

This (IMO) is the best formatted beginning text. It will start you with the alphabet and systematically progress you through vocabulary, vocalization (vowel pointing), construction, syntax, verb conjugation, tenses and etc.

Also, all of the practice sets and examples are taken directly from the Hebrew bible.

Hope this helps,

Amlodhi

But, since I see now how you are coding in the URLs, I am providing the link to the Grammar book itself below. That way, if Kevin is interested, he will have both my link below to the Grammar and your link above to the supplementary handbook.

Sorry for my inattention (need new glasses. Or eyes).

When you construct an Amazon link based on the URL you find at the top of the page, you need to delete everything starting with qid=.

There are instructions here: How to construct links to Amazon

Default Thanks!

Thanks guys! Actually, I have heard of the above mentioned book. Seeing as it is highly recommended in a lot of places I will pick it up.

Thanks again!

I have heard of this one as well. Does anybody know how it compares to the other?

Default Q

Question: Do these grammar guides include alphabet introduction? Or do I have to get another book to learn how to read the alphabet?

Edit: Hey, it looks like somebody already answered my question. Thanks

Thanks!
