The Inventory to date of The Simontic Problem:

1) 1:29-31 Sickness in Simon's house.

2) 3:16 Jesus gives Simon an extra name, "Peter".

3) 4:15 The Parable of the Sower specifically refers to Peter as in the category of Disciple Failure.

4) 6:3 The name "Simon" is assigned to a brother of Jesus who is presented unfavorably.

5) 8:32 Peter is presented as the Opposition to the Passion.

6) 14:1-9 A Simon is presented as a Leper.

7) 14:30 Jesus predicts that Peter will Deny him Three times.

8) 14:37 Jesus demotes Peter by using his pre-Disciple name, "Simon" to address him.

9) 14:34-42 Peter Fails to Watch out for Jesus.

10) 14:53-72 Peter Denies Jesus Three times.

11) 14:72 Peter mourns the loss of his life for Denying Jesus.

12) 15:21 Peter Simon is figuratively replaced as Leader of Jesus' followers.

And Categorization:

Major Negative Casting:
1) 4:15 The Parable of the Sower specifically refers to Peter as in the category of Disciple Failure.

2) 8:32 Peter is presented as the Opposition to the Passion.

3) 14:30 Jesus predicts that Peter will Deny him Three times.

4) 14:53-72 Peter Denies Jesus Three times.

Minor Negative Casting:
1) 1:29-31 Sickness in Simon's house.

2) 3:16 Jesus gives Simon an extra name, "Peter".

3) 6:3 The name "Simon" is assigned to a brother of Jesus who is presented unfavorably.

4) 14:1-9 A Simon is presented as a Leper.

5) 14:37 Jesus demotes Peter by using his pre-Disciple name, "Simon" to address him.

6) 14:34-42 Peter Fails to Watch out for Jesus.

7) 14:72 Peter mourns the loss of his life for Denying Jesus.

8) 15:21 Peter Simon is figuratively replaced as Leader of Jesus' followers.

After an Inventory or "Mark's" Negative Casting of Peter the next stage of The Simontic Problem is to Inventory the Formulas "Mark's" Jesus' presents to Identify Disciple Failure and determine if and How Peter meets the definitions of Failure:

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_4

10 "And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parables.

11 And he said unto them, Unto you is given the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all things are done in parables:

12 that seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest haply they should turn again, and it should be forgiven them.

13 And he saith unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how shall ye know all the parables?

14 The sower soweth the word.

15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; and when they have heard, straightway cometh Satan, and taketh away the word which hath been sown in them.

16 And these in like manner are they that are sown upon the rocky [places], who, when they have heard the word, straightway receive it with joy;

17 and they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway they stumble."

Here Jesus clearly explains categories of Disciple Failure to his Disciples and the specific category above is a Disciple who immediately follows Jesus just because he was asked but than falls away with the first persecution. "Stumble" above is a mistranslation as the word has a religious context and the range includes deserting/giving up the faith which the Context in "Mark" makes clear is the meaning (Ben). I've already made clear in Stage 1 of The Simontic Problem that "Mark" clearly shows Peter by Narrative as meeting this definition of Disciple failure.

The Inventory to date of "Mark's" Jesus' Formulas to Identify Disciple Failure and How Peter meets the definitions of Failure:

1) 4:10-17 The Preter Mature Evacuation Problem. Disciples who quickly follow Jesus and just as quickly abandon Jesus.

An obsolete kind of literary composition in which the vices and follies of the author's enemies were expounded with imperfect tenderness. In this country satire never had more than a sickly and uncertain existence, for the soul of it is wit, wherein we are dolefully deficient, the humor that we mistake for it, like all humor, being tolerant and sympathetic. Moreover, although Americans are "endowed by their Creator" with abundant vice and folly, it is not generally known that these are reprehensible qualities, wherefore the satirist is popularly regarded as a soul-spirited knave, and his ever victim's outcry for codefendants evokes a national assent.

Continuing the Inventory of Formulas "Mark's" Jesus' presents to Identify Disciple Failure and evaluating if and How Peter meets the definitions of Failure:

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_8

31 "And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

32 And he spake the saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.

33 But he turning about, and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, and saith, Get thee behind me, Satan; for thou mindest not the things of God, but the things of men.

34 And he called unto him the multitude with his disciples, and said unto them, If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

35 For whosoever would save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel`s shall save it.

36 For what doth it profit a man, to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?

37 For what should a man give in exchange for his life?

38 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of man also shall be ashamed of him, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels."

JW:
Previously, at the start of his Ministry, "Mark's" Jesus described Disciple Failure in General terms. Now, right after he has revealed the important part of his Ministry, the Passion, and in direct response to Peter, Jesus gives the Specific definition of Disciple failure:

1) Deny yourself

2) Take up your cross

3) Follow Jesus

Fast forward to Jesus'/Peter's Trial:

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_14

66 "And as Peter was beneath in the court, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest;

67 and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and saith, Thou also wast with the Nazarene, [even] Jesus.

68 But he denied, saying, I neither know, nor understand what thou sayest: and he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.

69 And the maid saw him, and began again to say to them that stood by, This is [one] of them.

70 But he again denied it. And after a little while again they that stood by said to Peter, of a truth thou art [one] of them; for thou art a Galilaean.

71 But he began to curse, and to swear, I know not this man of whom ye speak.

72 And straightway the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word, how that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept."

JW:
1) Deny yourself

"But he denied"

"But he again denied it"

"But he began to curse, and to swear, I know not this man of whom ye speak."

"And Peter called to mind the word, how that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice."

Here Peter has perfectly met Jesus' definition of Disciple failure by Denying Jesus (Three times) in order to save his own life. Just as Jesus' predicted and warned Peter. Hell, Peter's Denial was even on oath!

2) Take up your cross

Peter had already stopped following Jesus so he never got to this point but "Mark" nonetheless illustrates that it was not Peter Simon carrying his own cross behind Jesus:

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_15

"And they compel one passing by, Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to go [with them], that he might bear his cross."

I've already indicated that "Cyrene" may have a connection to a meaning of "strong leader".

3) Follow Jesus

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_14

50 "And they all left him, and fled.

51 And a certain young man followed with him, having a linen cloth cast about him, over [his] naked [body]: and they lay hold on him;"

JW:
Here all the Disciples, including Peter, abandon Jesus at the first sign of the authorities. A non-Disciple is the only one who tries to "follow" Jesus at this point. Showing up the Disciples again.

"And Peter had followed him afar off, even within, into the court of the high priest; and he was sitting with the officers, and warming himself in the light [of the fire]."

Peter eventually follows Jesus to the authorities but at a "great distance."

72 "And straightway the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word, how that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept."

Peter recognizes that he has fulfilled Jesus' definition of Disciple failure and mourns the loss of his life (the same word is intentionally used by "Mark" for the family mourning the loss of the life of their daughter) which is exactly the applicable penalty that Jesus gave. After this point there is no more following of Jesus by Peter, Peter leaves the Narrative and changes into his costume for Acts too.

In his character assassination of Peter "Mark" is using "follow" Figuratively. It means someone who was familiar with Jesus, while he was alive, and than after Jesus died, followed the teachings of Jesus.

Thus we have it on good authority that "Mark's" Jesus provided a specific definition here for Disciple failure which he than shows Peter meeting through Narrative.

2) 8:31-38 The Jewdie Mind Trick. Don't think, do. It's not enough to just think Passion like Jesus. You have to do Passion. Disciples who at NT crunching Times, are afraid to Affirm Jesus and Deny themselves (their earthly life).

Continuing the Inventory of Formulas "Mark's" Jesus' presents to Identify Disciple Failure and evaluating if and How Peter meets the definitions of Failure:

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_9

35 "And he sat down, and called the twelve; and he saith unto them, If any man would be first, he shall be last of all, and servant of all.

36 And he took a little child, and set him in the midst of them: and taking him in his arms, he said unto them,

37 Whosoever shall receive one of such little children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever receiveth me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me."

JW:
Saw a chain link to:

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_10

13 "And they were bringing unto him little children, that he should touch them: and the disciples rebuked them.

14 But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me; forbid them not: for to such belongeth the kingdom of God.

15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall in no wise enter therein."

JW:
Here "Mark's" Jesus defines Disciple success regarding the treatment of children and later defines related Disciple Failure after catching the Disciples in Flagrantee Dereliction of duties trying to cut off children from Jesus.

Thus we have it on good authority that "Mark's" Jesus provided a specific definition here for Disciple failure which he than shows the Disciples and therefore, presumably Peter, as meeting through Narrative.

The Inventory to date of "Mark's" Jesus' Formulas to Identify Disciple Failure and How Peter meets the definitions of Failure:

1) 4:10-17 The Preter Mature Evacuation Problem. Disciples who quickly follow Jesus and just as quickly lose a Jesus' direction.

3) 9:35-37 & 10:13-15 Cutting off your own hands, feet, eyes, High Priest's servant's ear and even your Peter to keep from stumbling if your are outside of Austin, Texas. Potential followers of Jesus are determined based on what Jesus thinks and not what you think Jesus thinks. Think about it.

JW:
Continuing the Inventory of Formulas "Mark's" Jesus' presents to Identify Disciple Failure and evaluating if and How Peter meets the definitions of Failure:

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_13

21 "And then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is the Christ; or, Lo, there; believe [it] not:

22 for there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall show signs and wonders, that they may lead astray, if possible, the elect."

JW:
A very Key point by the First Gospel. The use of "Christ" verses "Son of God. Let's take "Mark's" Jesus at his Word here and look through "Mark" for the son of men who have said "here is the Christ":

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_8

27 "And Jesus went forth, and his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea Philippi: and on the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Who do men say that I am?

28 And they told him, saying, John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but others, One of the prophets.

29 And he asked them, But who say ye that I am? Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.

30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him."

JW:
Yea baby! Oh do behave. Who else?:

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_14

61 "But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and saith unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?"

Interesting, first the chief Disciple and now the chief Priest. More?:

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_15

31 "In like manner also the chief priests mocking [him] among themselves with the scribes said, He saved others; himself he cannot save.

32 Let the Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reproached him."

The chief priests and "the scribes" ("the scribes"? was there a Scribe union?).

We can take "Mark's" Jesus at his word than that at least in "Mark's" gospel publicly identifying Jesus as "the Christ/Messiah" is bad. Also observe how "Mark" shows the progression of the misidentification of Jesus as Messiah. It all starts with Peter, is contracted by the High Priest and than spreads to the Priests and Scribes. 3 stages of course.

Also note that for "Mark's" Jesus to even state that a false Messiah could deceive the elect is pure Separationist theology as how could Jesus' followers not physically recognize him unless it was the Christ spirit that made the son of man.

In the Ironically Contrasting world of "Mark" if Messiah is the wrong identification, than what is the right identification. Clue - who is the only Entity that is Good in "Mark" and what does he/she/they/it have to say on the subject. Someone, anyone, Spin, Doug, Ben, PJ, Bueller?

In accordance with Due Diligence standards established by Jeffrey Gibson, I will now reveal my possible Bias. My Framework of the development of Christianity up to "Mark" is as follows:

1) Historical Jesus was Teacher & Faith Healer.

2) Peter was Jesus' disciple and James was Jesus' brother.

3) Peter and James taught 1) and wrote Q.

4) Paul ignored 3) and emphasized Jesus' Death.

5) "Mark" expanded 4) to explain that 3) represented a misunderstanding of Jesus and instead emphasized Jesus' Passion and Death.

This bias though is relatively insignificant compared to the bias of a Christian Bible scholar who assumes that God sacrificed himself to himself, thereby conquering death by dying, souly in order to put an end to his own Eternal Law.

This Thread is inspired by Richard Bauckham and his Jesus and the Eyewitnesses. And now, without further Alphadieu, "Mark", Chapter 1:

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_1

29 "And straightway, when they were come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

30 Now Simon`s wife`s mother lay sick of a fever; and straightway they tell him of her:

31 and he came and took her by the hand, and raised her up; and the fever left her, and she ministered unto them."

JW:
Simon's house is shown to have sickness. This is a relatively mild criticism of Peter and even arguable but there is a major Theme in "Mark" that sickness is caused by Demons/Evil Spirits. Also, "Mark's" literary technique is to gradually increase the Stauros of Peter's witness.

Note for future reference that "Mark" is casting Peter as the First and closest witness of Jesus' Mission (JtB was the first Witness).

So our First Inventory item:

1) 1:29-31 Sickness in Simon's house.

Hi Mal:

Quote:
The Gospel of Mark is best explained as a fictional allegory, which was written in reaction to the destruction of Judea in 70 CE. The author almost certainly had no intention of passing the work off as real history, the point of the story is symbolic and allegorical. What Christians have called "prophecy fulfillment" for centuries is nothing more than literary allusion. The Gospel of Mark was also based on the letters of Paul and makes allusion to them. Mark's Jesus is a character based on Paul himself. The Gospels of Matthew and John were largely created by expanding upon the scriptural references made within the Gospel of Mark. The Gospel of Mark is pure fiction, and the other three canonical Gospels are purely based on the Gospel of Mark, making them also pure fiction, even if the writers of the other Gospels may or may not have realized this themselves.
JW:
I'm Spinish (Agnostic) about the author's intent. I am Vorkosigan in movement (primarily Literature). The Dating is also starting to look to me like 2nd century:

1) Papias is Ironically evidence of late dating, not early dating, since he obviously made no reference to Canonical "Mark".

2) "Mark" is quite familiar with Josephus' War.

3) Nothing extant until the second century.

4) No Christian ID until the second century.

1st century dating sounds and looks like an Apologist duck.

What I'm more comfortable with is that "Mark" was primarily concerned with Literary Style and secondarily concerned with Theology. How else could the Original Gospel have no resurrection sighting and end with the complete Failure of Jesus' Disciples?

Regarding "sickness" in Simon's "house" or Saturday Night Fever, I think this is all Figurative. "Mark" equates Sickness with Evil. Simon's house is the first house he finds it in after finding Sickness in the first Synagogue he went to. Figurative.

As always "Mark" is Consistent here with his Literary Style:

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_1

29 "And straightway, when they were come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

30 Now Simon`s wife`s mother lay sick of a fever; and straightway they tell him of her:

31 and he came and took her by the hand, and raised her up; and the fever left her, and she ministered unto them."

The question here is who did she minister/serve? All of them, which would include Jesus or just the previous "them" reference which would be everyone but Jesus?

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_10

45 "For the Son of man also came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many."

The Key to "Mark's" Literary construction, Jesus came to Serve others and not be Served by others. The author is Consistent in his Narrative that Jesus is never Explicitly Served by the sons of men (after he has been prepared and Served by the Sons of God in 1:13). "Mark" can be Consistent with this Literary Style because he knows what it means. He knows what it means because it is his Creation. Consistency is what gives weight to evidence. "Mark" avoids stepping in his own shit. Since "Matthew" is largely copying "Mark" he sometimes doesn't know or at least doesn't accept what "Mark" intended:

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Matthew_8

14 "And when Jesus was come into Peter`s house, he saw his wife`s mother lying sick of a fever.

15 And he touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she arose, and ministered unto him."

Just as "Matthew's" Jesus, unlike "Mark's", is Served on the Cross. "Mark"?

"Mark": Doh!

The first big hit Christianity took was Horae Synopticae, Markan priority, which swung attention to "Mark". The next (and bigger) hit will be "The Simontic Problem", "Mark's" Discrediting of the Historical Disciples. Right now Werner Kelber seems to have the best understanding of "Mark" followed by Weeden. I recently discovered a Klein who wrote on the subject in German. Richard?

I don't see any evidence that the author of Mark was basing anything on Josephus.

I think my article fully explains the so-called "Simontic Problem".

JW:
Continuing the Inventory of Formulas "Mark's" Jesus' presents to Identify Disciple Failure and evaluating if and How Peter meets the definitions of Failure and specifically the issue of the proper identification of Jesus per "Mark's" Jesus, we have already seen that the wrong identification is "Christ" which is made 3 (surprise) times in "Mark" "starting" with Peter, is contracted by the High Priest and than spreads to the Priests and Scribes.

In Contrast, let's first identify the only Source in "Mark" which is Perfect:

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_10:18

"And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good save one, [even] God."

Now let's see how God identifies Jesus to identify the Right identification and than who else uses this correct identification:

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_1:11

"And a voice came out of the heavens, Thou art my beloved Son, in thee I am well pleased."

Well, God would know.

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_3:11

"And the unclean spirits, whensoever they beheld him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God."

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_9:7

"And there came a cloud overshadowing them: and there came a voice out of the cloud, This is my beloved Son: hear ye him."

The first time was just an Audio. Now it's Audio/Visual.

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_15:39

"And when the centurion, who stood by over against him, saw that he so gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God."

Notice how well this goes with Separationist theology, Jesus gives up his Spirit so that others may receive Spirit.

In summary we have God Herself indicating that the proper identification of Jesus is "Son of God". The Evil spirits know this also because they are spirits. And it is the presumably Roman centurion who is the first human, to make the climactic observation and human confirmation (understand Dear Reader?).

Note that for "Mark" Jesus' Confirmation moment as Son of God is his Crucifixion as opposed to Paul where it was the resurrection, just as subsequent Christianity sent Jesus' Sonship back in time.

Thus we have it on good authority that "Mark's" Jesus declared that identifying Jesus as "Christ" was Wrong and that "Mark" writes instead that identifying Jesus as "Son of God" is Right. "Mark's" Peter fulfills the Negative Formula for Disciple Failure by identifying Jesus as "Christ".

This was also likely the historical split between Judaism and Christianity. Peter, El-all, the historical Jesus' witness, thought of Jesus in terms of the Jewish Messiah. Paul/Mark, not historical Jesus' witness, thought of Jesus in terms of the non-Jewish Son of God and than tried to impose it on the Jewish Bible (see Dr. Spin).

2) 8:29 Simon Didn't Saay. Explaining How Jesus was the Jewish Messiah by not being the Jewish Messiah. Don't think, just let (the) spirit do the talking. Messiah wrong, Son of God right. Right turn Claudius.

3) 8:31-38 The Jewdie Mind Trick. Don't think, do. It's not enough to just think Passion like Jesus. You have to do Passion. Disciples who at NT crunching Times, are afraid to Affirm Jesus and Deny themselves (their earthly life).

4) 9:35-37 & 10:13-15 Cutting off your own hands, feet, eyes, High Priest's servant's ear and even your Peter to keep from stumbling if your are outside of Austin, Texas. Potential followers of Jesus are determined based on what Jesus thinks and not what you think Jesus thinks. Think about it.

SATIRE, n.

Continuing the Inventory of Formulas "Mark's" Jesus' presents to Identify Disciple Failure and evaluating if and How Peter meets the definitions of Failure

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_13

33 "Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

34 [It is] as [when] a man, sojourning in another country, having left his house, and given authority to his servants, to each one his work, commanded also the porter to watch.

35 Watch therefore: for ye know not when the lord of the house cometh, whether at even, or at midnight, or at cockcrowing, or in the morning;

36 lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.

37 And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch."

"Mark's" Jesus defines Disciple Failure here as sleeping on the job and failing to Watch out for Jesus. Compare to:

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Mark_14

29 "But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.

30 And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, that thou to-day, [even] this night, before the cock crow twice, shalt deny me thrice.

31 But he spake exceedingly vehemently, If I must die with thee, I will not deny thee. And in like manner also said they all.

32 And they come unto a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith unto his disciples, Sit ye here, while I pray.

33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly amazed, and sore troubled.

34 And he saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful even unto death: abide ye here, and watch.

35 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass away from him.

36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; remove this cup from me: howbeit not what I will, but what thou wilt.

37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest thou not watch one hour?

38 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

39 And again he went away, and prayed, saying the same words.

40 And again he came, and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy; and they knew not what to answer him.

41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough; the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

42 Arise, let us be going: behold, he that betrayeth me is at hand.

43 And straightway, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders."

JW:
Here "Mark" shows Peter as meeting Jesus' definition of Disciple Failure regarding Sleeping and Watching and than some. Peter is the primary Disciple contact above and is shown falling asleep 3, count em, 3, times.

Thus we have it on good authority that "Mark's" Jesus defined Disciple failure as falling asleep when you should be Watching out for Jesus and "Mark's" Peter meets this Definition by Narrative with the customary and Formulaic 3 strikes and your out policy.

5) 13:33-37 & 14:29-43 Wake up and go to sleep. How to observe if you snore while you sleep. Disciples who fail to keep Watch for Jesus by not being awake while they are sleeping.

JW:
Stage 1 of "The Simontic Problem" was an Inventory of "Mark's" Negative Casting of Peter:

Stage 2 was an Inventory of "Mark's" Jesus' Formulas to Identify Disciple Failure and How Peter meets the definitions of Failure:

1) 4:10-17 The Preter Mature Evacuation Problem. Disciples who quickly follow Jesus and just as quickly lose a Jesus' direction.

5) 13:33-37 & 14:29-43 Wake up and go to sleep. How to observe if you snore while you sleep. Disciples who fail to keep Watch for Jesus by not being awake while they are sleeping.

Stage 3 is "Mark's" potential Counter to the Negative Inventory above. Does "Mark" provide any Specific praise of Peter to counter all the Negative press. Keep in mind that "Mark" was written before the other Gospels so the Reader would not have a pre-conceived notion of Peter based on subsequent Christianity.

Our Inventory of "Mark's" Jesus' specific praise for Peter is as follows:

Let's look for Reaction to this lack of praise for Peter is the first known subsequent Gospel, "Matthew":

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Matthew_16

15 "He saith unto them, But who say ye that I am?

16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jonah: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in heaven.

18 And I also say unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

19 I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

JW:
When "Mark's" Peter needed it the most "Matthew's" Jesus gives him the highest praise. Note that "Matthew" even has Peter making the proper declaration "Son of God".

http://www.errancywiki.com/index.php/Matthew_19

27 "Then answered Peter and said unto him, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee; what then shall we have?

28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, that ye who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel."

That sounds promising.

Thus we have it on good authority that "Matthew" saw "Mark's" lack of specific praise for Peter as a serious problem that needed to be corrected.
