Default Help wanted: compiling list of 'unreasonable' islamic proscriptions/directives.

I'm not sure whether this area is appropriate for non-christian issues... if not, please feel free to move it.

What I'm basically trying to do is compile a list of all the 'thou shalt's and 'thou shalt not's defined in islam, particularly the less-compatible-with-a-normal-western-lifestyle ones, and I'd greatly apreciate any examples that the knowledgeable people here can come up with.

The sorts of things I'm looking for:

Making, owning or even looking too hard at pictures of living objects is not permitted.

Plucking your eyebrows is specifically forbidden.

Wives are *obliged* to have sex at their husband's request, with no excuse except illness/menstruation.

(I've seen all of these deliberated and attributed on an advice-to-muslim-women site, so I'm not making them up.)

I'm not after 'thou may' or 'this is' statements, just forbidden/required items.

I am told that the Torah is accepted as scripture, so anything from the Torah, the Quran or the hadiths would be fine (assuming they are not overridden further down the chain). Where humanly possible, attibuting the source of the directive would be of huge assistance.

Can anyone help out?

Thanks!

You can do word searches on the Quran just like the Bible:

Quran

This sort of approach is frought with difficulty I needn't detail here.

But at least take a look at it yourself as opposed to relying exclusively on what you are told. I find the three-verse repetative format annoying, but that's the way it comes...

Thanks for the link - I know the site, and do intend to go through it.

There are however obscure hadiths and popular quranic interpretations, and gods, I don't even know where to start with the torah... which is why I was calling for leads so I could follow them up.

One problem is knowing which parts are later refuted, which parts are later validated (or amended) and whether to apply default-accept or default-deny to all of the above.

Cheers,

jbc

This isn't really related to BC&H so I'm going to move it to a more appropriate forum...
