Default The Bible in pop culture - MMORTS game The Bible Online

Because this forum needs to know what's happening in the modern world . . .

If you've ever read all the rape, genocide and deep-seated racism in The Bible and thought to yourself, "Man, that sounds like my kind of world," then this is the game for you! The Bible Online allows players to "slip into the role of Abraham and his descendants and have the opportunity to reenact and witness the incidents of their times."

The game is going to be split into chapters with The Heroes being the first released. The basic setup is that of an MMO strategy game, where players control their own tribe, build a city, and naturally wage war in the name of God. It won't be a case of holding onto territory, however, as the ultimate goal is leading one's band of merry savages into the promised land.

As a MMORTS, players are to lead their tribe, build buildings, maintain resources and engage in warfare with other tribes. However, players do not stay in one place, but will go on a quest to go to the Promised Land. Players will lead Abraham’s tribe from Ur to Haran and finally to Canaan. <The Bible Online: Ch.1 The Heroes> also offers additional elements of RPG. When Abraham dies, Isaac becomes the tribe leader and after Isaac dies, Jacob leads the tribe. There are also quests for users to experience Genesis according to the history of the Bible. For example, as it is written in Genesis 14:13~14, there is a quest for Abraham to lead 318 men to rescue his nephew Lot.

While the content of this particular bible game sounds detestable, the idea of a RTS game where the goal is not to have a stationary base is interesting. I'm not quite sure how it would work, but it is interesting. I would assume that it would have to be different than the Terrans in SCII who can fly their base to another location.

More importantly, because this forum needs to know what happened in the ancient world .... how was the Bible received into the popular culture of the era in which it was widely published to the Roman Empire? What does the evidence say?
“… the sacred matters of inspired teaching
were exposed to the most shameful ridicule
in the very theaters of the unbelievers.”

[Eusebius, “Life of Constantine”, Ch. LXI,
How Controversies originated at Alexandria through Matters relating to Arius.]
The Bible was ridiculed in its popular reception.
This is an important historical fact in the reconstruction of "Christian Origins".
