Default Was Heracleon the Gnostic the First Pope of Alexandria?

I have always been intrigued by the possibility that the Roman Church simply muscled in on the Christian religion that had always been in the hands of Alexandrian Christianity. One way this could have been accomplished is by the fact that they outlawed certain sects formed around important individuals like Popes. I think the picture which emerges in Eusebius about the dates for all the contemporary Popes in Alexandria are wrong and develop as a result of trying to clean up the mess that result from Imperial persecutions in the third century.
