Eucharist, Transubstantiation, and Cannibalism
Can anyone show me from ancient sources when (in time) the theology of transubstantiation (ie. the bread and wine physically transforming into the body and blood of Jesus Christ) is made manifest? How have notions about it changed over time, or have they? What is the earliest source of transubstantiation?
Would love to be pointed to early church fathers, even to the Bible (although I do not believe the idea is in the Bible, but parts may have been used to justify transubstantiation). The Catholic Catechism may have some worthwhile information, I do not know. Anyway, thanks for any help in understanding this theological practice. |

Scroll down to section III. Transubstantiation to skip most of the insanity. Julian |

Now where have I heard that concept before? Philosopher's Stone - Alchemy! Lead into Gold, wine into blood, bread into flesh! |
