"I AM" is here!
Hey, if the Old Testament is simply talking about the "self"...doesn't this pretty much mute accusations of "theism"...?
When Yahweh says "I am" is here, a pretty cool segment of the Bible, how come "mono" theists continue to support the viewpoint about "God as other"...? Isn't most religion talking about human beings who defied the odds? |

Here’s my slant. I think this verse (Exodus 3:14) is saying something quite a bit different. I don’t think it is anywhere near as cerebral or philosophical as you are making it. It looks to me like a better translation for I am that I am might be I am becoming what I am becoming. In this scene the old-schoolers worshipped El, but Yahwism was gaining popularity. So the author combined and united them by making them the same god. Naturally the old-schoolers would ask, “Gosh Moses, which god are you talking about? El or Yahweh? So the author has his god character answer the question by saying, “You knew me as El, but now I’m Yahweh too. Don’t fuck with me. I’m god. Please don’t press this issue. Please don’t question me. I am becoming what I am becoming. Am I making any sense? |
