So we can ignore all of Timothy because it is only directed at Timothy? That's ok by me, I was ignoring it already. I think every single writing of Pauls in the bible is a letter to some church or church leader. Is it your opinion then that it we can ignore all of Pauls instructions to those early church leaders as being inapplicable anywhere but in the church and for those church leaders? |

You have to admit to some degree that a book can "teach" you something if it is the sole source for the information it provides. Sure it takes YOU to open it and read it but then where are you getting the information from that you are learning as you are reading it? Otherwise, why then do Christians spend so much money, effort and time in passing out bibles all over the world? |

Are you trying to argue that everything ought to apply universally? |

No, I'm arguing that every thing Paul wrote was written to some church or church leader. It appears to be your argument that we pick and choose only those passages we like from among those writings as being applicable to anyone outside a church and not a church leader.

That sounds like when people say, "She learned me how to ride a bike." I can agree it's a common expression but I don't agree with it being technically correct. I'm a sticky bitch on this issue and it's wrapped on in ideas of education and learning that are outside my thoughts on christianity.

Then for you a writer cannot teach you something through his/her book which he/she wrote for that purpose?
