Default Who is the naked young man from Mark 14:51-52?

Hello! I am a student in theology from Bulgaria. These days I am about to write a course project in NT (Synoptics) about the passage found in Mark 14 with the naked young man. So if you can share some thoughts about it it will be in my help. I was thought to mention about Mark and Lazarus (I found an interesting article about this theory). But I will be glad to know more opinions and thoughts. Thank you.

PS: I don't expect from you to do my project rather I expect to be more objective and mention more different views about this passage.

My Mark site has a discussion of the problem, along with my proposed solutions. You can check my reference pages for the references, some are online.

First post I noticed and welcome to Internet Infidels.

If you dare to go out on a limb let me suggest that the naked young man was the son-of-man reaching spiritual maturity when the last Jew left him and took the lion cloth with him. The lion cloth represents the fig leave that was added to man when the idea of shame first came about which only can be conceived to exist if we have a dual identity (nature). The removal of this cloth separated these two identities and allowed the ego to be crucified after Judaism removed the stain of original sin of which the loin cloth is evidence.

Notice here that religion has a dual purpose as a means to the end. First to deceive us and lead us into the bondage of slavery and sin from which later in life we must find liberation and be set free from our [second] sin nature to arrive at the ultimate destiny in life.

Welcome to the Boards, dlrs. Where are you studying theology? Which denomination?

There was a thread on this with some good material, in addition to Vorkosigan's site:

Theories on the naked young man in Mark.

This particular topic seems to bring out a mix of serious and frivolous comments, with references to the alleged Secret Gospel of Mark. I assume you will know which is which, but if you're not sure, please feel free to ask.

It's definitely one of those passages that stretches the credibility of such fundie statements as "every word in the Bible is inspired by God. No verse is more important than any other." I've heard this sentiment expressed many times. So just what is it about the thought of an anonymous young man letting his cloak go and running away naked that I needed to know in order to obtain salvation?

I used to believe what the traditionalists said, that this passage referred to Mark himself.

But that was when I actually believed that Matthew wrote Matthew, Mark wrote Mark, Luke wrote Luke and John wrote John. :Cheeky:

But there is nothing you need to know to obtain salvation. In fact anything you know will be held against you as a liability.

He is Peter Kirby. Peter will find a time machine some time in the future, and of course, he had to go back in time to see if Jesus really existed. What he was doing naked with Jesus is anybody's guess though...

Interesting but does the name Sophia Pentecostal Bible College not bother you? It should because Sophia is wisdom and not likely to be peddled in bible colleges.
