Talking Funniest explanation from a fundie

Ok, I'm curious if you have some funny explanations from fundies regarding contradictions, failed prophecies, cruelty or something like that.

Here's the funniest thing I've been told. I just quoted the story of Elisha and the bears, and here is an explanation of the story from a fundie (translated):

Quote:
I would add to this that the word that is translated as "little boys" is a word for young men, and is for example used for Joseph when he was 39.

And the word that is translated as "maul" can also be translated as "split apart" and then one could understand the verb as refering to the group of 42 young men having been split apart.

Then it isn't so bad.

And if I understand it correctly, the word that is translated as "she-bears" actually means "she-bears that have been separated from their whelps" and then it's very natural that the she-bears ran through the group, split it apart, and ran to their whelps on the other side. This probably made the young men afraid.. but didn't kill them.
It's amazing how fundies can just create different stories that actually appear in the text. :rolling:

The most hilarious mistake he makes is when he looked up the word "bear" (probably on some online dictionary) he probably saw an example given of the occurance of "bear" in Hosea 13.8, which is translated (and not only the word for "bear") as "a bear robbed of its whelps". :banghead:

You may like to submit that to Fundies Say the Darnedest Things. It is a compilation the of even-more-hair-brained-than-usual quotes of fundamentalist Christians on the Internet. That site was founded by a now-deceased member of this forum. Rest in peace, WinAce.

The part about the boys being young men is correct. We don't know their age. The part about the bears not killing them is not what the Bible says. It ought to put a little fear of God in those who read it. If you don't like it, argue with God. (Not a wise thing to do.)

Right...the least you can do if you're going to talk to yourself like that is get one of those hands-free earpieces so people just assume you're on the phone.
