The rhetorical trope of exaggeration, used often in the NT, by Jesus especially.

Where did Jesus Christ state that he was exaggerating for effect?

And how does one distinguish the exaggerated parts from the non-exaggerated parts? It has to be some rule other than "if I like it, it's non-exaggerated, while if I don't like it, it's exaggerated."
