Details, details (imagine my hand waving in a dismissive manner, so as to conform to the norms of this board) ... Now place here a long reactionary knee jerk invective in defence of my mis-statement so as to save face.
Seriously though, I should have worded it differently. I couldn't quite agree with your paraphrase "people who only care about bodily pleasures are bound in a death grip to their bodies in the same way that crucified people are bound in a death grip to their crosses." It seemed to be missing the point that there is a degree of correspondence between the soul that inhabits a body and the body itself. So, I shall re-write my original statement (although steadfastly maintain that I never did, again to conform to forum norms) as: "I think, along with Andrew, that this is a literal use of "crucified," not figurative. But I take issue with his paraphrase, and think the message being conveyed is rather:DCH Quote:
