Modern Tyre, a town of some 6,000 inhabitants, lies on the northern side of a peninsula, while the ancient Phenician city was situated on an island. The prophet Ezekiel, like the Assyrian King Asahurbanipal, describes Tyre as built " in the midst of the seas " ( xxviii. 2, cf. xxvii. 3-1, xxvi. 4), and the name itself means " rock." The island on which Tyre lay would seem to be the present peninsula where the modern town is situated.

Must kill you guys to have such an obvious failure of your god staring you in the face.

Maybe the Israelis will nuke it for you so you won't have to look at it.
Duh, perhaps I missed something here.

It would seem that the island no longer exists.

Interesting.

Thanks,

The island has become a peninsula:

Those home-bound people, or folks serving 10-years to life might want to read Lee Merrill's lengthy, but ultimately failed attempts two years ago to defend the Tyre prophesy.

Not me. My position is that there is not any credible evidence that the prophecy was made before the events.

Then the prophecies are wrong, since history says it was not a two-part kingdom.

You could, if the city were built on an island in the sea.

Critics like to post photos of modern Tyre and say "here it is" "look its doing fine" yeah I see island Tyre but where is mainland Tyre?
It doesn't matter. The city was on the island, not the mainland. The older dwellings on the mainland were not the city, so it doesn't matter where they are today.

lets qoute from the real bible KJV not the false RsV. "It shall be a place for the spreading of nets IN the midst of the sea." This shows that Tyre will mainly be a place for fishing and spreading nets in this case is the spreading of nets in th sea to catch fish. In verse 14 "And I will make you like the top of a rock: thou shall be a place to spread nets UPON (ON)." This shows that nets will be spread ON Tyre. Fishing nets after being spread in the sea are afterwards spread on land for drying. Thus Tyre will be a place for spreading of nets in the sea and a place to spread nets upon to dry. Which has happened right before our eyes. Tyre has gone from Queen of trading of many coveted goods to a mere fishing site. Just as Ezekeil predicted.

many historians lists Tyre as both a mainland and island city. And how can you spread nets to dry on an island buried under the sea? These arguements have failed to explain this. Sheshong just said that you could spread nets on a sea covered island by saying you could if the city was built on an island IN the sea. note: he didnt say under the sea. God said he would bring the deep over Tyre (island). Meaning Tyre is to be buried deep beneath the sea. So how can you spread nets on an island buried deep beneath the sea? Where will you dry them? How can you dry them on an island buried under the sea? wont they still be wet? The place for spreading nets UPON is mainland Tyre a once great city. The burial in the DEEP is to be done to the island. Two different judgements against two different parts. Use common sense.

lol, good one. How to make a good translation: Use less accurate texts, get people who know less about the language to translate them, then wait 400 years so that people can't understand it.

So I'm sure it's your detailed knowledge of the Hebrew language that makes you so confident that v. 14 refers to drying the nets?
Also, Tyre is the 4th biggest city in Lebanon, not a "mere fishing site". The prophecy clearly states that Tyre was to be destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar. It wasn't. Ergo, the prophecy failed.

What evidence do you have that Ezekiel 26 was not written after the events?
