Default Stars as Signs

What on earth was God thinking when he made stars as signs? And where did he write the instruction leaflet? I'm only a lowly engineer, but I don't think he made a very good job of it personally. I would have at least stopped them rotating. That way I could have laid them out like a big arrow with the letter N underneath, or better still like one of them signposts with the direction and distances to various capital cities. Maybe every spring they could flash the message "Plant Crops Now" and stuff. That would be how to do proper signs. How would you do them if you were me?

Another question would be why the vast majority of stars are not even visible from Earth. If they're "signs" why can't we see them?

Just in general, I'd like to know why fundies think God made so much superfluous universe that humans will never be able to see or interact with.

God made the stars as signs so that whenever appropriate a new star could suddenly appear in the sky to signify an important event, such as the birth of the messiah. What's even niftier is how this star "stopped" right over the cradle of the baby. What a neat trick!

Perhaps a simple explanation of the stars as signs means earth is not all there is. And misinterpreted it could mean astrology, calenders, predictions, etc. Even today we seek, spending millions of dollars, other signs of life amongst the stars. Why? Could it be that we innately know that there is someone or something else? We are not the center of the universe. And I would propose the following though I know this one will be laughed off the boards..........

Perhaps the story in the myth is a refutation to the generally held belief of that time that mankind always was meaning an old soul. That he was re-incarnated over and over again. Perhaps the “baby reference is that life birthed here is brand new life. And the star shining over the baby means, is a sign, that earth is the beginning of life. Of course this doesn’t fly in the face of common interpretation of the “no beginning no end, but perhaps that has been misinterpreted as well. Perhaps that only means, “where does God begin, where does God end? Does he begin in me, and end in you, does he begin in that tree but end in that rock? Does he begin on earth and end in space? Not a perpetual recycling.

Now where does man begin............................I was intriged by that “cradle of the baby reference.

Not trying to purport, just trying to flesh out a thought.

Whaat I also find interesting is a report I heard about a year or so ago that said, if I understood and remembered it correctly, that science can now prove that the universe is expanding. Hmm, why? Correct me if I’m wrong on this because I’m not sure if I remember it corectly.

It would probably have been better to bring them all a heck of a lot closer too. That way He could have made use of parallax to make the stars spell different messages from different angles.

Looked at from one direction, He could have one bunch of stars spelling out 'These are My Chosen People: Leave Them alone, or else!', but when looked at from the opposite direction the same stars spell out 'Go forth and plunder here boys, but save some of their virgins for Me'.

On a separate thought: How come God didn't lay on some sort of 2,000 year anniversary show for His famous 'Star of Bethlehem' trick?
After all, they re-did the Band Aid single for its 20th anniversary.

How hot is a star exactly? Wouldn't it have burnt the straw on Jesus' shed?

See. It's a serious thread now.
