Would there be any way to sponsor/organize a debate between Price v.s Ehrman?
Would there be any way to sponsor/organize a debate between Price v.s Ehrman over a historical Jesus issues? Say via Paul Kurtz secular humanist agencies.
Or for that matter, Crossan v.s Doherty? Or a Price & Doherty v.s Crossan & Ehrman? Obviously who you think will win depends on your current view of historicity of Jesus now. topics to include: parallels to other religions, "independant multiple attestations" What Paul really says about a HJ, contextual credibility of Jesus, versus a purely spiritual figure, in first century Palestine, etc. |

I didn't see anything in Price's work that gives a thumbs up to Doherty's readings. Where does he do this, and why would be Doherty's debate partner?
Likewise, Erhman and Crossan don't exactly agree on everything either. |

Debates are a form of performance art, not a form of scholarly inquiry. Price engages in debates with Christian apologists, because he is a deconverted evangelical apologist, and evangelical groups keep organizing debates to try to convince their followers that they are intellectually respectable.
(If you ever get a chance to hear Robert Price, take advantage of it. He puts on a great show.) Ehrman debated William Lane Craig once, to point out his bad use of history, but I don't know that he normally does debates. The people that you mention would probably prefer the format of a discussion panel. But they would probably prefer to sit in their offices and do research. |
