Default Richard Carrier Speaking at Stanford and Lake Hypatia

Richard Carrier will be speaking and signing his new book at Stanford (California) this May and again at Lake Hypatia (Alabama) this July, on the subject of miracles and historical method, with a slideshow.

Stanford:

Time: Tuesday, May 24, 2005, 7pm
Place: 260-113, PIGOTT HALL, Stanford University (Stanford, California)

Richard Carrier, author of Sense and Goodness without God and contributing author of The Empty Tomb: Jesus Beyond the Grave, will speak on "Miracles and the Historical Record," which describes a "tool kit" for examining miracle claims in history. Summarizes how to analyze and weigh historical claims, with entertaining examples and a slide show, concluding that, so far, there is not enough historical evidence to believe any miracles have happened, not even that Jesus rose from the grave.

See: http://www.stanford.edu/group/ratt/meetings.html

Lake Hypatia:

The same talk just announced ("Miracles & the Historical Method," with slideshow) will also be given by Richard Carrier this July 4 at Lake Hypatia, Alabama, as part of a larger atheist summer event. For information on that weekend event, see:

Expenses are all I require (air fare, room & board). Time is an issue. But with enough advance notice (preferably three months or more) I can usually schedule a visit to give a speech once details and expenses are covered. For details: http://www.columbia.edu/~rcc20/speaking.html

Unfortunately, thanks to oil prices which have doubled under Bush, air fares have doubled as well, making my visits prohibitively expensive for most local groups. Splitting expenses with a Christian organization to arrange a debate is more feasible, though even then rarely so, and the requirements I have for a debate are more stringent. Richard, the Hypatia info sites don't have a schedule. Do you know the day and time you are speaking? Some of us won't be able to attend the whole weekend.

Well, I found a schedule here (second page), but no Richard Carrier or Brandi Wittman. Dan Barker's on for Sunday night, though.

I'm quite interested in hearing both of you speak, but I need to know when you'll be speaking.
