Part of Chapter in Matthew added later; source?
Hello to all the BC&H readers,
I have a quick question. Elsewhere in the IIDB, perhaps in this forum, I recently read that parts of the book of Matthew after ___ were deemed by scholars to have been added at a later date. I'm no whiz with the II search function, so after 3 tries I'm appealing to you all. I hope some of you can point me to either the thread discussion or some links to other sources for this info. (Or both.) I don't need much detail, just the verses and the basic information. Thanks, -ELGS |

I believe you are thinking of the Gospel of Mark, not Matthew, which most everyone believes ends at 16:8 and the traditional long ending, 16:9-20, is added by a later hand. The literary integrity of Matthew is undisputed, says Schnelle. There may be a stray bit of redacting in there, but no major chunks, at least AFAIK.

Ah ha. No wonder I couldn't find it in the search function. Thank you so much, this is what I was looking for.
