The Two Swords - Luke 22:38
Just before his Betrayal and arrest in Luke Chapter 22: we find Jesus giving words of preparation to his disciples ... which is diffent from his earlier sending them out (and later the seventy) see Luke chapters 9,10 also Mark / Matt. what stikes me about this is what occurs soon thereafter ... the attack and wounding (cutting off an ear )... In some commentaries there is a reference back to Isiah (53) but that only talks about a general prophesy and nothing about the significance of buying swords / arming ... am I reading a violent message into this passage ... forshadowing Revlation and Jesus portrayed as having a tongue like a two edge sword (asking here because frankly I can trust the answers more than more conventional sources.)

Probably not worded correctly but verses 35 - 39 are between Jesus predicting Peter will deny him... and before his prayer in the Garden, Mark & Matthew contain nothing similiar (strangely in Mark he does not heal the ear) ... Just wondering if there has been discussion around this passage .. what might be read into the two swords imagery?

This line also seems to intimate that Jesus's disciples actions are only to fullfill certain quasi prophetic requirements, and are not truly insurectionary. The healing of the ear was probably added in so that Jesus couldn't be accused of being part of some harm. |

:notworthy :notworthy :notworthy Thanks .... also supports my believe that Mark was the earliest and Matt / Luke cleaned-up some problem areas in response to critism of JC actions and or other oral traditions ... |
