Default Nobel Prize.

What are the chances of an I.D creationist pseudo scientist, winning a Nobel Prize? I know it sounds stupid, but these people take themselves very seriously, and each year when the prize is announced they wait with bated breath. As much chance as me winnig one I suspect.

The lack of publication in peer-reviewed journals would seem to exclude such people from the science categories.

Of course, it's possible they could achieve Nobel status in one field yet be a complete yahoo creationist.

They have won it already (kinda); that evil pixie Mama Teresa won it for her vatican fund-raising and poor people-torturing humanitarian work in 1979 - and how that didn't destroy the award I will never know.

Well, I mean - Yasser Arafat also won the same prize as Mother Teresa, so it is kind of a catch-all.

Indeed premjam, a good point well made.

Also, I don't want to derail this thread, so to keep it on I.D., do they actuially think they will win it one day? What about 'the atheist conspiracy'?

Unlikely that they will win it for doing ID - I don't think any scientific discovery of note has come about from them.

I suppose someone could do great work in one of the sciences, and then go through a rough patch, get "saved" (or rejoin their childhood religion) and spend their later career writing creationists or ID books.

Then, years later this (former) scientist could win a Nobel prize for the earlier work.

Check this out. They are already sort of claiming victory in that regard.

Creative Evolution: An Anti-Darwin Theory Won a Nobel
by Jerry Bergman, Ph.D*

Abstract

An anti-Darwinian theory of biological origins that was well received and widely accepted for years was creative evolution. This theory attempted to deal with some of the major problems of Darwin's theory, especially the origin of biological information. Developed by Henri Bergson, the level of the theory's acceptance is indicated by the fact that the author was awarded the Nobel Prize for his work in this area. It is the only Nobel ever awarded for an anti-Darwinian theory of biological origins.

If creationists can prove that God created viruses and bacteria, then they deserve the biggest Nobel Prize of all.

This seems to have wandered into the wrong forum - I think Ev/Cr was its intended home.

The only think I know is that Biblical Criticism is not a category. And I think that Nobel Prizes have been awarded for things that later turned out to be wrong.
