Here's a description of the show that can be bought as DVD set. It's kinda general and it will not give you much insight into the details. I've missed parts due to the "cardiovascular collapse which was the Superbowl" so I only remember bits and pieces. The important thing is that they discussed not only the Old Testament (as Friedman does in his "Who Wrote the Bible") but the New Testament and the Gnostic gospels alike (stressing the gospel of Thomas). Part of the show was dedicated to Dead Sea Scrolls. I should be able to watch this again in next couple of days (TiVo rocks) so I'll try to post more details.

If it's general reading, then dig in. If you want to use it as a quick reference, you might want to make some sort of notes or highlights (if you do this in your books) so that you can recall where you read a statement at...

1). The hypothesis basically states that the first five books of the Old Testament were compiled and edited together over many centuries from a variety of sources, both written and oral.

2.) According to Friedman, J was composed sometime between 922 - 722 BCE, during the divided kingdoms of Judah and Israel.

3.) It doesn't appear so. I HIGHLY recommend reading the introduction to "The Bible With It's Sources Revealed" as it seems to me that Friedman is throwing down the gauntlet to DH critics and daring them to prove that the Hypothesis holds no water. It's great stuff! He concludes his brief introduction thus:
