We know that chronology is not a strong point in the NT.

If this is true, then please explain why the fathers of the Church agreed that Peter's martyrdom was in Rome.

Neither. I think it refers to the early Simon — Garfunkel's first partner.

He has to be talking about Simon and Jacob (James) the sons of Judas of Gallilee, as these were the only ones of that name, that Josephus refers to being executed together, probably in 49 CE. I don't see anything other than the names(super common names) connecting them to christianity or Simon Magus.
