Thomas Aquinas, perhaps Christendom’s most influential theologian, said that those in heaven seeing the torments of the damned will be happy doing so!

Have it dawned on you that maybe old Thomas Aquinas was wrong on this point. People followed the good Rev Jim Jones to look how that ended up! No one can be happy in Heaven with a knowledge of Hell. I did say apparently in the bible. Weeping and gashing of teeth that sort of suffering stuff!

I never meant to imply that he was right. Personally, I think Aquinas was a sadist for believing that heaven would be delightful because one can see the suffering of the damned. Catholic apologists attempt to defend Aquinas by saying that Aquinas didn’t really mean that the suffering of the damned was the source of the delight: Those in heaven would be delighted knowing that they escaped such an awful fate. In any case, I think it’s a gruesome belief that any civilized person should eschew.

Okay, sorry! I guess I would be delighted to know that I escaped (sorry Chili) hell. However, it would be soon short lived once I looked around and noticed that i was a few family members and friends short! Only to find out that they were in hell and there was nothing that I could do about it. But as I already posted Heaven is Hell and Hell is Heaven?

Diogenes the Cynic, I enjoy reading your posts. They are often well informed.

As a 'better-than-average-but-not-quite-prime-time' historian,
I am often concerned with the bias of some historical sources. And in published works, the historian often does not account for the bias of the historical source.

After 2000 years it still amazes me that so many biblical interpretations, are riddled with mistatements. Growing up Catholic, the volume of nonsense that is not historical, but still taught nontheless, boggles my mind.

Is there ANY good source that once-and-for-all, clears up all the mistatements of the bible?? ??
Reference footnoted of course.

Default Christ immoral? Of course!

Getting back to the subject of Christ's hypocrisy, here are a few words to reflect upon:

Quote:
Christ's behavior and methods are to be appraised according to his mission, his ability, and his nature. His "genial" nature is higher than morality, for morality is neither high nor low, it is nothing, and what is called morality is nothing but a tool of egoism. Genius, as genius, towers over egoism and its means; it is also completely immoral—that is to say, completely unegoistic.... What is meant is the overcoming of egoism for the sake of the truly great, so that he who demands the truly great has likewise overcome egoism; and he who has overcome egoism has also overcome morality, and is no sinner. (Constantin Brunner. Our Christ. 211)
