Saoshyant/Soshans
I came across a reference to Saoshyant, the Zoroastrian saviour/messiah. There wer a couple of old threads here that spoke about him:
http://www.freeratio.org/showthread....ight=saoshyant http://www.freeratio.org/showthread....ight=saoshyant There's a wiki page about him, also an article in the Jewish Encyclopedia. Is there any chance that this figure fed into either Jewish or Christian messianism? Could this figure be the mythical root of Jesus Christ? |

IIRC, there is no clear evidence that this figure pre-dates Christianity. It seems equally possible that JC influenced the picture of Saoshyant.

Zarathushtra is usually dated to 600BC, and the Saoshyant appears in Gathas composed by him.
