Why are American presidents obsesed with protecting israel? is it connected to the ot in any way? i've been told that the reason why they are backing up and looking out for israel is because they want thier god to return fast

Because Israel is the only democratic and technologically advanced state in the region. Because during the Cold War the Arabs allied themselves with the Soviets and Israel was our ally. Because there is a large Jewish vote in the US. Because of guilt about the Holocaust.

I should note that many US Presidents have supported Israel without intending to support the second coming of Christ. There are some evangelicals with influence on the current president who think that it is important to support Israel for Biblical reasons. But there are no serious Biblical scholars who have anything to say about this.
