Syncellus has, of course, used Eusebius extensively, but he attributes the Phlegon information to Julius Africanus, whom he also used extensively as a sort of backbone for his chronicle.

Moreover, Origen also knows the Phlegon stuff well before Eusebius.

And furthermore, without using NASA records, no eclipse of the sun can occur at full moon, or between the 14th -17th day of Nisan. In order for an eclipse of the sun to occur, the moon , however, must pass between the earth and the sun, at full moon, the earth passes between the sun and the moon, so an eclipse of the moon is the only likely scenario, but this can only occur in the night.

This apparently fictitous eclipse of the sun gives rise to the theory that these events were written about many, many years after they were falsely claimed to have occurred so as to cover-up the errors and false claims of the authors.

Why does it matter? It appears to me that a lot of time and energy are being wasted on a question that is largely irrelevant.

1/ There is no evidence that a Jesus Christ actually lived.

2/ Paul never met this Jesus so it makes no difference when he proclaimed himself a prophet, be it 2 weeks or 20 years after his death.

3/ He claimed more authority on Jesus teachings and legacy than the cult that started the myths. (now that little fact should practically scream the question of Pauls legitimacy to anyone with common sense)

The question I would be asking is why Jesus supposed disciples didn't write anything down until 10 plus years after Paul and not before him. (which is more obviously suspicious than Pauls claims in the 1st place)

It matters because the proponents of a HJ cannot reconcile the errors in their own texts which enable them to come up with reasonable answers to those questions.
