why onlt attack the Bible? what about other "revealed" holy books and other faiths
I noticed that there uis alot of focus on disproving the Bible amongst our types, and on exposing the christian bible and faith. what about other Faiths and their ''revealed" 'holy texts'??? Ie:Koran,Torah{theres some of this amongst us} and others as well?
Just a thought Peace |

First, Torah is part of the Bible. Did you mean Talmud?
Second, the Bible is the one holy book most Westerners are most familiar with. For better or for worse. I've never read the Quran. Have you? You might see discussions of the Vedas, Celtic, Norse, ancient Greek and Egyptian traditions, etc on the non-Abrahamic forum. |

A lot of arguments against the Christian Gods can also be easily applied to any other religion. |

A recent thread that asked (and addressed) a similar question to the one the OP asks:

Mainly because we're confronted with people who wave the Bible at us and claim that it is absolute truth. If someone did something similar with some other sacred book, we'd criticize that also. Consider in GRD these threads about Islam:
Mohammad's 9 year old bride (Aisha) No Virgins? Raisins? Eh? (Houris: gained in translation) |

Yeah, I see your point. I mean, i myself have been critisized for such an "attack" on the Bible in my community. I've done little to none of other "sacred" texts such as the Koran and others, because I have not read them. But maybe I should, should I ever come across someone of that faith or of some other faith trying to prove the infallibility of their "holy" books.
We probably all should. but you're right, the Bible is what we run up against the most in this culture over all the other books. Thanx for the responses guys. peace |

We do get some Muslim posters on infidels forums offering us "proof" as to why their religion and Holy Book are the true ones. Their evidence sounds remarkable similar to the evidence offered by Christians. Muslim explanations for "alleged" error in the Koran also sound remarkable similar to Christian explanations for "alleged" errors in the Bible. Each one, of course, insists that their true faith is nothing like the other false faiths, and it's absurd for us to compare them.

As someone else mentioned, if you are talking about textual criticism, then you would be mistaken to assume that only the Bible (which includes the Torah) has been subjected to this interpretation. With regards to the Koran, Wanesbrough wrote a couple of books (which are supposed to be republished later this year) using critical methods. I would imagine that the Hindu and Buddhist religion have also been subjected to the same critical (as it obviously could produce dozens of PhD theses), but a quick trip to a university library could probably confirm this suspicion.
Reiterating what others have said, the reason the Bible is taken to task on iidb is that dominate religion of english speakers is Christianity and thus it would seem quite natural (as this is an english board) that such topics would be addressed here. Additional note: some years ago The Atlantic Monthly had an article to the effect of "Who wrote the Koran". It can be found here. |
