Default A trip back in time to Genesis 16:11

Here is Genesis 16:11 from NetBibleâ„¢

Quote:

Then the Lord’s angel said to her,
“You are now pregnant
and are about to give birth to a son.
You are to name him Ishmael,
for the Lord has heard your painful groans.
I would like to argue that at one point during the evolution of this myth the story read as follows:

Quote:

Then Yahweh, the messenger of El, said to her,
“You are now pregnant
and are about to give birth to a son.
You are to name him Ishmael,
for El has heard your painful groans."
Ishmael means “El hears.

Yahweh didn’t hear Hagar’s painful groans. El did.

In the early years Yahweh was just a messenger.
