Default How could I resist?

After this exchange with Dr. Jim West, I could not help but promptly register www.dilettante-exegete.com (don't bother clicking it, it's paid for with an e-check, so will take a few days to clear, at which point I'll get around to setting up a redirect, eventually). It's just too good a name to pass up! Since I really have no use for it, I decided it would be prudent to make one, hence my new biblioblog, The Dilettante Exegete (that link works).

Regards,
Rick Sumner

Default The Wild Wild West

JW:
Thinking that a requirement of proper Interpretation is that one be Trained and Fluent in the Original language of a Testament is a Strange argument for a Christian to make.

That Dr. Jim is a funny guy, going off about theological and historical training. Here are his credentials from his "about" section:

Quote:
Academic Credentials
Doctorate of Theology, Andersonville Baptist Seminary, 1994
Master of Theology, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, 1991
Master of Divinity, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, 1988
Bachelor of Arts, Carson-Newman College, 1985
Sorry, but IMHO, SEBTS is a preacher's vocational school, not an academic training ground for historians and theologians. It's a hotbed of Baptist fundamentalism. I don't know anything about Andersonville Baptist Seminary, but I'm sure it rates up there with the best. :Cheeky:

Andersonville Baptist Seminary is not accredited by the US Dept. of Education, at least I couldn't find it listed.

Curiously enough, both Carson-Newman College and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary are accredited, according to the search link you gave me. On the other hand, according to his CV, he is an Adjunct Professor of Biblical Studies at Quartz Hill School of Theology, which is unaccredited.

Yeah, it surprised me. But as you point out, Jim is qualified concerning degrees, just not a valid doctorate.

You know you're dealing with a preacher vs. a scholar, when,
[first clue] ... he prefaces his name with "Dr."
