Default "Misquoting Jesus" - By Dr. Bart Ehrman

Has anyone read this book yet? I read a few of his articles and backgrounds. Saw him on The Colbert Report last night and was amazed at the humor at Colbert, but moreover Ehrman's willingness to go along with Colbert like he was a xianist LOL... was truly funny.

Anyhow, was just wondering if anyone had an opinion about Dr. Ehrman and/or his books. He seemse to be coming from a historical standpoint which I love when people talk about the bible.

You will love his books then. His book on the New Testament is among the best and has plenty of other reading suggestions as well. In Misquoting Jesus, Ehrman makes a case for the the corruption of scripture- both benign and intentional. He provides some basic examples for the lay reader- one's that do not require too much indepth understanding of Greek and gives a good overview of how and why such changes may have occurred.

Generally geared toward a general audience, the book is still thoroughly enjoyable and a quick read. For a more indepth discussion of the topics it touches on, Ehrman offers many references to his other works as well.

I highly recommend all of his works.

I also saw this show and was wondering whether it was a setup or an ambush. Ehrman lokked genuinely surprised at some of the things Colbert said, almost as if he expected it to be a standard interview. Compare his appearance on The Daily Show (it can be found on Youtube).

Colbert does such a good job of lampooning and parodying wingnuts, but I wonder if the wingnuts recognized the the schtick this particular time?

lol yeah...

It was pretty funny. No, I don't think many wingnuts watch the program, but if they do I doubt many of them would be able to pick it apart. Colbert is hilarious with his satire, but Dr. Ehrman played along with it quite well.

I will give the books a shot thank you guys for your inputs.
