Cross-referenced Gospels/NT?
I have seen a few versions of the Christian Bible, KJV, and some more modern versions. There are lots of footnotes and references, but the footnotes and references I would really like are not included. For example, there are many places in the different Gospel accounts where it says to the effect, "something happens w/r/t Jesus, which fulfills the prophecy X." Sometimes they even quote the supposed prophecy from "Scripture" or where something "is written." But the footnotes and references never say, "this refers to Isaiah 52:3 where blah blah blah." Is there any version of the Bible where these X-references are made in the footnotes, so you know where in some other "scripture" was written the prophecy Jesus is supposed to be fulfilling? It seems that would have been a really important part of the Bible to put in, but they never do.
any help out there? #2680 |

My NIV Study Bible has lots of footnotes that identify the chapter and verse whenever some Gospel writer says, 'Thus Scripture was fulfilled.'
Or maybe I'm misunderstanding your question. |

No, no, you understand the question correctly. I just haven't seen the version that does that. They have lots and lots of footnotes for obscure words or translations, but not real cross-references; you'd think it would be real common, but it doesn't seem to be. Mind you, I most commonly look at Bibles when I am in some church. While everybody else is standing, kneeling, praying, etc., I'm reading something or other. Thanks for the tip: NIV, thank you. Maybe only the "Study Bible" version has these?

You can "Look Inside" the NIV Study bible at Amazon and get an idea of the extent of footnotes there.

The Pre-Nicene New Testament: Fifty-four Formative Texts (or via: amazon.co.uk) I haven't seen it, but one of the reviews says that the footnotes are "strategically placed". HTH |
