Default The Redemption of God

Quote:
Abstract
Jung's theoretical understanding of religion makes of the analytic
process a religious event. It recalls the Gods to their psychic origin and
encourages unmediated conversation with them within the containment of
the psyche. The analytic process thus understood is currently to be valued
for a number of reasons. The internalization of divinity curtails enmity
between religious communities bonded by external Gods. More than this
Jung's total myth contends that divinity can become conscious only in
humanity.

The education and redemption of God in history is an ongoing
project.

Currently it takes the form of an emerging myth of an extended
compassion whose embrace supplants still reigning myths of lesser
compass. The analytic process though confined, in the first instance, to
individuals is a significant contributor to the now emerging societal myth

Saw Psychology and Alchemy in Borders this morning, and fell in love with the whole section on Unicorns! (Has anyone written about Jung and the IPU?)

This is vol 12 of his collected works in paperback with wonderful pictures. As the reviewers state it is very hard going if you are not used to Jungian language like collective unconscious, individuation and active imagination.

Flicking through though I find this wonderful idea that humanity's role is actually to educate and redeem God!

Think about the classic parts of xianity - the Eucharist and interestingly in Revelation, the idea of the Church becoming the Bride of Christ! God has to be incomplete before marrying humanity, otherwise why suggest the marriage!

(It is very difficult to write this clearly - I am arguing that xianity is a psychological alchemic tradition to approach issues about wtf we do about God!)

Remember Jung had an imaginary friend, he treats God in the same way - our minds by creating the other - a friend, a God, thus has more ways to tackle issues, more ways to look at things.

The language he uses - like collective unconscious and archetype might feel they are part of a non materialistic world view, but they are attempts at description. We need to find a way of not throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Jung argues strongly that alchemy has had two major results in the modern world - not only is it the roots of modern science but also of psychology - literally the study of the soul! Xianity should be seen as within this alchemic tradition, that got lost on a god saving man track instead of the whole picture of humanity saving god as well!

It is possible that the people who are looking at christianity are far too
close to their subject matter (the Atlantic Ocean of Martin Luther King)
and are therefore not capable of such global oceanic abstraction.

The value of multi-disciplinary research is thus most important.

For a modern day psychologist who basically incorporates much of
Jung's philosophy, have a look at some of the books published by
Dr. David Hawkins, such as 'Power vs Force', and also his creation
of what he terms his "Map of Consciousness", which I have sketched
here.
http://www.mountainman.com.au/map_of_consciousness.htm

Additionally, some of the quotes collected in the footer addressed
page below are from Hawkins. Here is one related to Jung:

Quote:
"The individual human mind is like
a remote connection to a database.
The database is human consciousness itself,
of which our own cognizance is merely an individual expression,
but with its roots in the common consciousness
of all mankind. --- Hawkins, p34,"Power vs Force"
Essentially I agree that the study of the soul cannot be bound
by any one disciple, for it is a boundless subject related to life
itself, and its pathways of approach are of the inner world of
the student of life.

Before I get bumped to GRD, is it legitimate to see the xian story as two way - not only the one way street of god becoming man to save us but man becoming god to save god?

That seems to be the very strong implication of the bride of christ story!

What do you mean by "saving god"? The concept of a god?
Saving a certain god?
What I do like about YOUR concept is the idea of taking responsibility onto YOUR hands, and maturing from the needy child in search of dad-god, into the responsible strong adult saying to good ol' god:
"Come on, ol' man, looks like you need a ride! Wanna ride shotgun?

I am asking is xianity actually a stage in our growing up where the myths do actually entail the salvation - in this case - of Yahweh.
