meaning of and use of 'NU' in my KJV bible
There are certain passages in my bible that have a little * next to them which referes to a footnote saying 'NU-text reads.....' which basicly gives us a varient reading of particular passages/verses.
As i understood NU is considered the most accurate collection of manuscripts we have. the bible i am holding defines it as 'the most prominent modern Critical Text of the Greek New Testament, published in the 27th edition of the Nestle-Aland Greek NT, and in the 4th edition of the united Bible societies Greek NT" So can someone please tell me what exactly does NU mean. Is it the readings found in the manuscripts that are consindered the oldest and most accurate? and if so, why does the bible only put it in the footnote? Is it because the other reading supports the Orthodox reading better, which is the why the changes exist anyway? |
