Why study religion and public policy issues split from Crank Theories
Whooo! Like I'm reaaally going to be impressed by your "Faculty of Divinity"?
NOT. A bunch of supporters and repeaters of the same old filthy and lying dead doctrines of filthy and willfully lying dead men, that have always contributed to so much totally unnecessary war, predjudice, oppression and misery for mankind "In the name of Gawd". You be impressed, betray all of humanity for your "reward" of paying your lip service to liars and their lies. |

Disinterest in the NT seems an eminently rational position to me. If it's all nonsense, then why should we be interested.
The people I don't understand are those who, believing that it is all nonsense, believing that they have only one life, nevertheless choose to spend their limited hours on the NT rather than on something positive and constructive. |

IMV, it is a fascinating mystery involving incredibly convoluted evidence and profoundly powerful psychological processes which may never be solved absent the discovery of new evidence. |

Roger, I'd rather you not revise my statement. What I said was;
"it is of little matter to me, what inferences or conclusions my fellow skeptics might draw from its various fairy-tales." And that was only in response to a Christian's attempt to maneuver me into disputing some statements concerning the "magical-water-into-wine" account that were made by my fellow skeptic PhilosopherJay. I have found the study of all aspects of religion to be interesting, entertaining, and enlightening. That however, does not indicate that I am willing to swallow everything that is written in it, or that is being written about it, regardless of with whom such writing might originate. As to what the NT is, according to all evidences, I am very confident of the position that it is "fabricated religious propaganda" and not real "history" , and further that it IS decidedly a "A bunch of borrowed pagan mythology crudely cobbled together and pasted onto to the fabric of an ancient Hebrew national creation myth. A political/religious ruse conveniently adaptable to the domination and manipulation of the ignorant and superstitious, and to the fleecing of the flock for the benefit of both the church and the state." It is good when men pull their heads out of their asses long enough to recognise these things, so they are no longer need remain the unawares victims of institutionalised lies and religious bull-shit. |

Speaking just for myself, Roger, it is because of the damage which its adherents have inflicted on society throughout history. Even worse, are the ones who want to "teach" creationism in our schools, ignore environmental problems because "jesus is coming back anyway," and enact laws to punish anyone who they determine that their 'god' does not like. If they want to scare themselves silly with boogeyman tales from the Iron Age in their churches, that's fine. They have a constitutional right in this country to do so. Just keep it out of our schools, courthouses and science labs. |
