I chose not to go into History after getting my BA because I wasn't interested in living in poverty while earning a doctorate and I could always go back and write something in 20 years in my spare time. I have no idea what maryhelena's qualifications are but she's been reasonable and civil to me. Do you have any stake in this thread other than to wander and insult people who are only observing? |

Since you aren't elaborating your theory and maryhelena isn't participating, doesn't seem likely I'm going to get the chance.
I've been doing my best not to insult outhouse, I really have. The mods haven't warned me in that thread yet. He's been much more condescending to Sarpedon and myself than we have been to him. |

Elaborating my theory with hostile witnesses around is like exposing myself in front of a guy with big scissors. How many professors participate in hostile forums like this? To some extent their expertise entitles them to respect but there is always weak points to any theory. It's hard to think when a pack of rabid dogs is chasing you. People don't participate in this forum to suffer abuse. I don't mind because I sort of think it is kind of funny to see how much I can take before getting angry at all the sniping. Nevertheless if you stood up in front of a review committee to question even the decisions you made driving that day, you could find a lot to pick a part. Doesn't mean you aren't capable of being a good driver. Just sloppy. This is after all an informal forum.

But it is one thing if the person judging is proven to be a qualified expert in his own right. But if he's just some bored yahoo it's a different story. Don't mean that as an insult. Those cooking shows on the Food Network generally have experts as judges rather than rounding people up from the local Walmart.

Uh huh. Right.
Have you considered the possibility that degree of resistance and hostility you get is not because you have wildly iconoclastic and innovative ideas but rather that your ideas are just extremely silly? The effect is identical to neutral observer. |

But I don't get any hostility. I am quite happy with my friends here. They like me and I like them.
