Thank you, I appreciate that answer. I thought myself it seemed a bit of an odd claim. Surely if it were true then it would have been exposed and corrected ages ago?

I apologise for my tone, but I didn't think you were addressing the point. Sorry.

I remember seeing a documentary that stated that this translation was in fact a false translation and the last sentence had been added after the fact. Now I can see why the Church might have done this, but is there any truth to this, and if so what could be his evidence? IIRC he was a Assistant Professor of Theology at Oxford, so he probably had some basis for this? Anyone know why he might of claimed that, or in fact if it was correct that The Bible had been so obviously changed, to completely alter the meaning?
The second English sentence is there in the Greek. Nestle-Aland shows no problems in the manuscript tradition at this verse. So there is nothing obvious to support the claim you refer to.

That would be this show?

As Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus, theologian Robert Beckford investigates remarkable parallels to the Christ story in other faiths, some of them predating Christianity by thousands of years.

I'm not sure, I think it was actually only focused on the early part of Christianity post Christ's life, ie amongst James and others ministries, rather than on the Jesus story itself. Anyway I think the answer I've got is satisfactory enough, although I do wonder why he made this claim. It was unusual enough that I still remember it a few years later.
