Roger, do you think you could post those links about copyright again? Thank you?

Since the crash I have obtained the three volume Loeb
translation of JC ROLFE and read it for the first time. This
has made me appreciate an entirely different perspective
upon the Roman empire in the decades following Nicaea.

Can anyone advise on the copyright status of this work,
whether it was renewed since Rolfe's departure?

Do you plan on putting them on the net? If so, I will just send you what I have and you can finish it. See Roger's links for the copyright info )havn't found it, yet).

I'd like to put the text on the net, and will investigate
the use of a scanner for its preliminary parsing. I'd be
happy to receive your progress-to-date in contribution
which would be acknowledged in the publication.

The copyright issue appears to be OK, as it is more than
50 years since the departure of the translator ROLFE,
but if anyone has information to the contrary ...

I shall attempt to use Roger's standards of presentation
for this project, such as maintaining the footnotes, their
renumbering and movement to the end of each book, etc.

I have recently posted a few articles extracted from
the text of the Res Gestae (lit.,things done)
by Ammianus Marcellinus, purported written, to be
recited in a public forum, circa 391 CE.

There are many useful references already about the net
but as yet no entire English translations of this work.

The three articles sent to this forum:

* Obituary of Constantius (Book 21.16)
* Obituary of Julian (Book 25.4)
* Obelisk of Karnack (Book 17.4)

have been attached to a stub for the entire work:
http://www.mountainman.com.au/essenes/res_gestae_00.htm

Further resources will become available
as time permits.

Best wishes,

Pete Brown
