Ask George W Bush and his 'faith-based initiatives'. Now, do you deny that people have used the bible to excuse genocide, slavery and so on?

Strange, my bible doesn't have illustrations.

I view it like I do any other ancient book of legends and folklores. Interesting to read about, not to be taken literally.

D'oh, I stand corrected. It's still a collection of "silly stories", but I wouldn't want any kids of mine reading the bible, at least not until they're mature enough I feel comfortable with them watching R-rated movies.

**considers some of the stories in the bible**

...ok, maybe until they're old enough for porn.

And kissing that Blarney Stone isn't hygienic either. It's out in the wind and rain, and everyone is putting their mouths on it.

For most of its history Christianity was the STATE religion. The State sanctioned non-conformists and treated them as being deserving of mal-treatment. If that isn't political, what is?

Visionary7 was talking about the book. You are talking about the people and the religion. Would you blame Beatle lyrics for what Charlie Manson and his cult did with them?

The Bible's most useful function is in proving that the Bible is NOT the word of God ... unless God is a sadistic idiot.
