Default Why do some Christians become inerrantists?

For purposes of this thread, I define inerrancy as "the belief that God inspired and preserved the originals free of errors except for scribal and copyist errors."

In my opinion, inerrancy is one of the main reasons, if not the main reason, why American Christians tend to be more religious than Western European Christians are. If I am right, then skeptics should pay more attention to inerrancy, and study and discuss it more.

It is a need for an infallible authority to point to.

The Protestants have rejected the ecclesiastical authority of the largest and oldest community of Christians in the world.

Without an infallible Magisterium for guidance they created the belief in an inerrant book from God.

Well if there was no literal Adam, then there's no "original sin" and therefore no point for a Jesus.

15But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! 16Again, the gift of God is not like the result of the one man's sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. 17For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.

18Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men. 19For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.

20The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, 21so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
And like Deus Ex said, this is really a Protestant problem (with the majority of Americans being Protestants) due to the nonsense of sola scripture and sola fide.

There has never been an archaeological discovery that has disproved the bible. Never was and never will be.

The bible itself is proof that inerrancy is false. All you are doing is shoving your head firmly into the sand so that you can ignore the errors found in the bible.

Many religions mention real people and places. So what? Most skeptic archeaologists agree with the Bible that King Nebuchadnezzar existed. What does that have to do with inerrancy?

Of course he existed, and we also have archaeological proof that he campaigned in Egypt.

This thread is about inerrancy, not archaeology. What does archaeology have to do with inerrancy? Since many false religions have some accurate archaeology, obviously, archaeology does not have anything to do with inerrancy.

oh? what about the geological proof that there was no flood?

the inerrancists should pay more attention to that fact.

no flood equals bible is not inerrant.

I think that inerrancy is the result of a certain mind set. American Christians are more religious than Europeans for a variety of reasons.

Skeptics have discovered that logical proofs that the Bible is errant are not an effective way of deconverting fundamentalists. You can see from IBIH that true believers can find some rationalization for anything.
