Default A challenge to Lee Merrill regarding the Babylon prophecy

Lee Merrill has said that he would give up Christianity if Babylon were to be rebuilt, a very small and utterly absurd minority position even among fundamentalist Christians for sure. Of course, I don't believe him, but if he actually means what he says, he has a problem. Isaiah 13:19-20 say "And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees' excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there."

Now Lee, do the texts not indicate that if some Arabs pitch their tents in Babylon, or if some shepherds graze their flocks there, the prophecy has been discredited? If so, I assure you that I can arrange to have some Arabs pitch their tents in Babylon, or have some shepherds graze their flocks there. If I do, will you give up Christianity?

In the thread on the Babylon prophecy, which you conveniently withdrew from, you said that it is suspicious that Muslims ought be interested in rebuilding Babylon so that they could discredit the Bible, but have refused to do so. However, it is not suspicious at all. There is not any credible evidence at all that if Babylon were to be rebuilt, the Christian church would become even 1% smaller, and that the U.S. would adopt a friendly foreign policy towards Muslims. What is in fact suspicious is that you know that Muslims do not have adequate incentives to rebuild Babylon but you won't admit it. You are well-known for becoming evasive whenever you get into trouble, and the undecided crowd, which is essentially the only crowd who you have any chance to influence, is surely not impressed with your evasiveness. Would you like to tell us a few people who agree with your arguments, inluding at least one scholar? I doubt it since stating corroborative sources has never interested you very much.

You won't need any popcorn for this one, cajela. I can assure you that Lee Merrill does not have any intention of participating in this thread to any great extent, if at all. He knows when he has been beaten. <edit>
