Default More ancient texts online.

I have just blogged about another cache of ancient texts on the internet, this one including many Hebrew texts as well as the usual Greek and Latin. Some of you (I mean you, for example, Julian ) may be interested in many of these texts, which are, as far as I can tell so far, all in Unicode.

Ben.

Thanks, Ben. Again. I'm all over that action. Please continue digging around.

BTW, this site is hosted by Yandex in Moscow. How come the Russians seem to have all these fabulous texts available? (Remember skeptik?) I mean, you are an american going to Russia for a Greek text. One would think these things widely available, and yet...

Actually, there is some kind of direct relationship between Skeptik and this site. Somebody has copied from somebody else, or perhaps both sites are by the same outfit. (One can tell by the unusual .gif files used for the Greek version of On Famous Men by Jerome.)

I may not be the only person who uses wget. Who knew? Handy tool, that.

BTW, how are you searching for these things? Maybe a few more minds/computers/time can up the odds a bit.

I do phrase searches on Google (using the quotation marks). I copy and paste a Greek phrase from a text that I already have at least part of, often only in hardcopy or from my own site; Google is able to account for accents or the lack thereof to some small degree, but this is not perfect, so I try all kinds of searches (accented mainly, some unaccented, phrases of varying lengths).

Latin searching is even easier, of course.

I believe it, but I do not know how to set it up.

Have you ever considered trying your searches here: http://www.google.gr/ on the Greek google?

Type wget --help and it will tell you more than you want to know. Or use google, although I would recommend the English version for this. Although, I could see "How to get the bits with wget," by Gregory 'HAXXORZ' Thaumaturgus might be insteresting.

Or, if all else fails to clarify for you:

Code:
bash:~$ man wget

Or, for those people who are unix/linux challenged (shame on you), you can try this: http://www.httrack.com/

OR

install firefox and get the DownTemAll! extensions. That works on everything. But it doesn't have the recursive power of wget. It does have a nice regex feature, though.
