Earl Doherty to speak in Los Angeles Sept 11, 2004
Earl Doherty will be speaking to an Atheists United dinner on Saturday, Sept 11, 2004, at Taix Restaurant in Echo Park. The subject will [not necessarily] be the Jesus Puzzle. I will post more information when I know more.

Wow, I work only a few miles from that restaurant!
In fact, I've been to a number of banquets and retirement parties there. Will it be open to the general public, Toto? |

The focus of the talk will be "on the rationality of atheism". Some material related to the Jesus Puzzle may be included however. He emailed me. |

I hope someone will send the Photos. An update of scholars that take Doherty seriously: 1. Darrell Doughty, Professor of New Testament, who holds a M.Div. from San Francisco Theological Seminary (1962), D.Theol. in New Testament from the University of Göttingen, Germany (1965), taught in Drew University's Theological and Graduate Schools from 1969 to 2003. 'His teaching and research in the field of New Testament and Early Christianity focusses on Christian origins, the Pauline writings, the history of Pauline Christianity, second century Christianity, the rise of normative Christianity, Higher Criticism and the New Testament, and the history of research in these areas. He is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature and a participant in the Paul Seminar of the Westar Institute . He was director of the Institute for Higher Critical Studies at Drew University and associate editor of the Journal of Higher criticism." His comments on The Jesus Puzzle "A remarkable book it is. Extremely well written and very persuasive. Congratulations! It will be required reading for students in my seminar on Jesus next semester." 2. Robert M. Price, Professor of New Testament Doctor of Philosophy, New Testament; Drew University, Madison NJ; May 1993, Master of Philosophy, New Testament; Drew University, Madison NJ; October 1992, Doctor of Philosophy, Systematic Theology; Drew University, Madison NJ; May, 1981, Master of Theological Studies, New Testament; Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, South Hamilton MA; May 1978, Bachelor of Arts, Philosophy and Religion; History; Montclair State College, Upper Montclair NJ; May 1976 With over fourty publications under his belt, Price was the first scholar to endorse Doherty's book and his comments appear in the blurb of the book. 3. Rod Blackhirst Professor of Biblical Studies, La Trobe University Bendigo Australia Publications Australia The Biblical World Medieval Studies Traditional Cosmologies Islam and the West Dead Sea Scrolls. His comments on The Jesus Puzzle "Well done. This is a great personal achievement on your part, and I think your work will make a substantial impression on New Testament scholarship. Once again, as an academic I am struck by the fact that you do not hold an academic position, yet your work is of a much higher calibre than much that comes out of academic circles these days. Your work is proof that important work is being done beyond the narrow confines of official academic discourse. Thank you for your efforts. A sunburst over the lingering gloom of the quest for the historical Jesus!" Laymen Cliff Carrington, New Testament scholar, Bendigo, Australia: "Your recent book, The Jesus Puzzle, has cleared the ground for a new understanding of the foundations of the Christian movement. Now we can proceed to the re-construction of a more reasonable structure. I consider your book to be so useful that I have purchased two copies for our Library - one for myself and the other for lending." http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Atrium/3678/ Hundreds of Laymen http://pages.ca.inter.net/~oblio/rfjprev.htm The link, of course excludes me, Jay Raskin, Quentin and millions of other laymen, some of whom frequent these forums. I would say you are in good company. Welcome aboard |

Thank you, JA. When I stumbled onto Doherty's website years ago, I about fell off my chair. I had not been aware of credible scholarship positing the non-existence of Jesus. Beyond amazing. Look at the edifices built in the name of someone who never existed.
I’m hearing about a mythical Jesus theme movie in pre-production titled “The Beast. Assuming it is completed and released, I wonder if reviewers will comment on the idea of non-historicity. In mainstream publications that is verboten. |
